m600 and iSync

Recently I’ve lost my Nokia 7610 and decided to buy a new phone. I bought a brand new Sony Ericsson m600i, mostly due to it’s nice look and my disappointment with the Nokia E61 which I wanted to buy first. Also as I’ve remembered from the past, Apple has every model of Sony Ericsson phones in it’s great application iSync. To my disappointment, iSync didn’t worked with this phone at the moment. So, that was the problem: i have 500+ contacts in the address book which have to be transferred to the m600i. First I’ve tried to save entire file as .vcf from address book (2.7mb!) and sent it to the phone. Phone said that “the file has a wrong format”. Ok, I’ve decided to install Parallels Desktop and to install bundled phone software for windows. Several hours later I’ve got the knowledge, that Parallels Desktop doesn’t work fine with the usb and bluetooth connections – actually it would be better to say it doesn’t work with usb and bluetooth. Internet forums, questions and answers didn’t helped. Then I’ve decided to try uploading several contacts directly from Address Book. To my surprise, I had a success with it, then I though that address book .vcf file was just too large for the phone. I’ve tried uploading ten, fifty and a hundred contacts at once and it did worked! After that sitting a little bit relaxed, I’ve selected entire address book contacts (command-a) and uploaded it to the phone through address book (card -> send these cards). I hope this solution will help someone lucky enough not to spend several hours trying.

Digg It!

  2. Great, Larry.

I just can’t understand, why all these phones can’t just get a VCF file

Hmmm…I guess I’ll have to use this method with my new P990i which is basically the same OS wise as the M600i. :(

DId any one try e2sync. the developer says that we can sync p990i with mac using his module. Being the the m600 is similar to p990i, that should work too.

The person I sent my vCard to can’t import it into their address application
Some other address book applications don’t accept vCards in the default 3.0 format. Try exporting your vCard in 2.1 format and sending it again.

    To change the vCard format:
Choose Address Book > Preferences and click vCard.
Select 2.1, and then choose a format from the pop-up menu.

  14. Didn’t work for me, until I told Address Book (in preferences > vCard) to use the 2.1 format.

If only I knew this a month ago then maybe I wouldn’t have lost my cool after trying for 9 hours to sync my contacts then in a rage I murdered my wife, I am now in State Pen where mobiles are not allowed, but I still get to go online once every two weeks to look at fatgirlsoncrack.com. Love you!

I just got an M600i and this is an great way of sending contactinfo. The preblem I have with this is that all dots, commas, etc in a vCard have a \ before it and the return is represented as ‘\n’. The M600i imports these backslashes as a backslash (so no conversion). So instead of the comma in Addressbook I get ‘\,’ on the M600i. And instead of a return I get a ‘\n’ on the M600i. How do you solve that?

  33. Scott says:

Is there eany update on the situation?
Maybe SE or Apple finaly gave up on arguing and relised some Isync plugin?
